This bed frame has all the right features and lessons learned through the years, plus it’s a great value too!
What we want to do in this post is go over some of the common questions people might have about this bed frame. It’s a lot to take in when shopping and we’re hoping to make it a little easier for you.

Storage Underneath?
The AmazonBasics Platform bed frame has about 13 inches underneath for storage. It’s a great way to store boxes and other items under the bed.
If you sleep warm, I would recommend not sleeping with anything under the bed. If you must make sure it’s in a storage box. Fabrics that you store under the bed can act like insulators making you sleep warm.
Do You Need A Box Spring?
Nope, no box spring is needed for this bed frame. In fact, I recommend avoiding box springs all together especially if you have a memory foam mattress.
You want good air flow for your memory foam mattress and having a box spring under it will just restrict the air flow. You want to place the memory foam mattress directly on this platform.
Is It Noisy?
The AmazonBasics Platform Bed Frame is not noisy at all. You can roll around on it without it making a sound.
Great for the “adult stuff” if that is your concern.
*Made Of?
This bed frame is made of steel which is perfect and if you ask me holds up better then wood. Steel supports more weight and doesn’t creak as wood does.
I personally think metal bed frames are ideal if you sleep warm and go into great details about that here.
Folding and Moving?
As someone that lives in an apartment, I find it very important to have a bed frame that is easy to fold up for moving. The AmazonBasics Platform Bed Frame is quite easy to fold up and carry it away.
Even the bigger sizes like king and queen are easy to fold up. This is huge. It’s one of those problems you don’t realize you have until you have it.
This also makes it easier for shipping too.
I still recommend letting someone help you carry it once it’s folded up as it can be cumbersome.
Can You Put A Memory Foam Mattress On It?
Yes, it works quite well for memory foam mattresses. A latex mattress will also work well for this mattress too.
Some memory foam mattress makers are picky about slat length when it comes to warranty claims. So it’s still wise to consult your warranty guide for your mattress.
Spring Mattresses?
Can you put a regular spring mattress on this bed frame? Yes, it is not a problem for spring.
Sliding?
Placing the mattress directly onto the bed frame should not be a concern for when it comes to sliding. The only sliding I’ve ever seen is when a box spring is involved.
Even though you could use a box spring with this bed frame, I wouldn’t if you’re concerned with sliding.
Inside Another Bed Frame?
This can be used with some beds that have the outer dressing like footboard and sideboards. Please double check dimensions of both this bed frame and what you have now to make sure everything lines up.
You will need to buy extra hardware if you want to attach a headboard or a footboard if you don’t have it already. There are no holes for the headboards or footboards so keep that in mind when getting hardware.
The Legs?
The bottom of the legs are not sharp and have hard plastic covers on them to help protect your floors. If this is a big concern, it doesn’t hurt to get coasters just to be extra sure.
Do You Need Tools?
You will NOT need tools to put the AmazonBasics Platform Bed Frame together.
How Long Do They Last?
Metal bed frames can last a long time. The good news is that they’re not that expensive and I often tell people to get a new bed frame when they get a new mattress.
I think if you’re getting a new mattress you might as well get a new bed frame too. If you buy it online it’s not that badly priced also. It’s like getting a new home and putting the new home on the old foundation – it’s better to put the new home on a new foundation.
Are The Legs Recessed?
The legs are tucked in a little bit.
Futons?
You can place a futon on this bedframe but I would not. You need something thicker than a futon unless you put something like plywood down.

Any Other Tips?
Get a mattress protector*! Mattress makers are super picky about their warranty claims, and the slightest of stains will void your warranty. Not only that but if you spill something you don’t want it to soak into the mattress as it’s super hard to dry a mattress. I have a REAL WORLD spill test with soda on a mattress protector that I use myself here.
If your mattress is over 7 years old, then it’s time for a new one. Mattresses don’t last forever, and you are maybe having sleep issues and thinking a new bed frame will help. A new bed frame can only do so much if the mattress is old.
