I don’t really get to talk about futons that much here. So I decided I would talk more about them and even review them too. First up is the DHP Emily Convertible Futon. Very modern looking and really nice feel to it, got to love the chrome legs on this one.
This review is going to be a little bit different, I’m going to be answering some common questions people might have about this futon and others like it.
What are the dimensions?
The length fully extended is about 70 inches.
When the chair back is up its about 60 inches.
Seat height is about 15 inches.
The chairs back height is about 32 inches.
And the width is about 30 inches.
How does it sleep?
It actually sleeps very well compared to some of the other futons I’ve tried. I remember when futons were just these uncomfortable bed/sofa thing that I hated. So I come from hating futons, but this one is actually quite nice.
It would be perfect as a guest bed for someone in a small apartment. Or someone just spending the night, you can’t go wrong with this thing.
Could you sleep two?
You could, but it will be super tight. It’s a bit shorter than a normal bed so you might hang off a bit. To solve this just sleep at an angle which would pose an issue if you want two people to sleep on it. You can get the chair option added to this package and this would solve your issue. But two people might not work for us “normal” size people.
Long term sleeping
The futon is quite nice to sleep on, but only for a week at the most. If you plan to use this as a primary bed I would get some foam mattress toppers to make it a bit nicer to sleep on for the long run. Even with a mattress topper, this is a cheap option for anyone looking to get a new bed. Even broke college kids could make this thing work fine.
Do you need to assemble it?
Yes, you will need to put the thing together. It’s not hard to do but will require you to put some time to the side to get it in one piece.
Is it easy to clean?
Yes, super easy to clean. Just some regular soap and water will do for most stains. It’s kind of too easy to clean if you ask me.
Does it smell?
Many mattresses like things that get shipped to your door can sometimes have a smell to it. I did not find anything out of the ordinary in the ways of smell with this futon. I’m not quite sure where some will say it smells, but new products do have a new smell to them.
Just spray something nice on it and it will be fine. After a few days, you won’t be able to smell anything. I guess some people’s noses are stronger than others.
The weight limit is about 600 pounds.
Can you rotate the cushions?
The cushions can not be rotated as they’re pretty much attached to the futon permanently.
How many people could sit on it when its a couch?
You could very easily fit 3 normal size people on this couch, 4 if you don’t mind touch each other and they’re small.
