If I could make the perfect mattress, it would for sure have latex in it and the feel of a spring mattress. Somehow Lucid has been reading my mind and created a hybrid mattress they call the LUCID 12 Inch Latex Hybrid Mattress.
In this post, I want to answer some of the more common questions people have about this mattress. I’ll also give other points and tips you can use when shopping for your new mattress. I’m hoping this little review can help clear up some questions you might have.
I do recommend you check out the reviews on the LUCID 12 Inch Latex Hybrid Mattress here.
What Does Hybrid Mean
A hybrid mattress is a combination of two or more different types of mattress materials. For example, a hybrid mattress is often a spring or memory foam mattress combo with the spring on the bottom and memory foam/latex mattress on top.
Why do this?
It gives you a good combination of both types of mattresses. This is also perfect for someone who doesn’t want to commit to memory foam just yet or wants to ease into it. Or if you sleep hot but want the comfort of a memory foam mattress but the cooling of spring. It’s like a win-win in the mattress world.
If you usually sleep hot, you might want to talk to your doctor to make sure it’s not your mattress. Also, I have a guide on sleeping hot and what you can do about it – you’ll be surprised that it’s often not what you think.
The great thing about the LUCID Latex Hybrid Mattress is that it has springs in it which is better than a mattress that is entirely foam. Why is it better? Because the air can flow through it better to help with cooling.
The top layer is made of real latex. Latex is one of the best materials to sleep on; it’s a good combination of cooling and springiness.
Another good point about latex is how it sinks and rebounds back compared to straight memory foam. To be honest, to get a layer of Latex at this price point of a mattress is good. This is like getting a car with the leather seat kind of good.
10-inch vs. 12-inch
What thickness you should get depends on how you sleep. If you’re more of a person that mostly sleeps on your back, then the 10-inch would be better for you.
If you sleep more on your side, then the 12-inch would be better for you.
If you like a softer or plushier mattress, then the 12-inch would be good for you.
The thing is, both sizes will work for most people. The standard sizes in the mattress industry are 10-inches and going with a 12-inch would just result in a more plush mattress that is ideal for the side sleepers out there.
I would recommend a platform bed frame for this mattress. It’s always smart to get a new bed frame when you get a new mattress. You don’t want to put a new mattress on an old worn out bed frame as it could make things worse for you – kind of like you don’t put a new house on an old worn out the foundation.
What exact foundation you should get is up to you, but I’m a fan of the metal platform bed frames with the recessed legs. I’ve done many reviews and talked about many tips for many different models out there on this site. But here is the latest talk on one here.
You can put this mattress on a box spring, but I would not recommend it. I would recommend getting a new bed frame or a new box spring.
I often see people replace there mattress thinking it was the problem when it was the old bed frame/box spring or even both.
This mattress will work fine for many overweight people. You might find this more enjoyable than a straight memory foam mattress as it will have the bounce for making getting out of the bed easier.
I would also recommend getting a metal bed frame too if you’re overweight for the better support.
The LUCID 12 Inch Queen Latex Hybrid Mattress comes with a 10-year warranty.
Since we’re on the topic warranty, I highly recommend getting a mattress protector. A mattress protector will help keep the mattress from stains and help to keep it looking good for years.
This mattress will come compressed in a box. This helps to make shipping easier and easier to get in your home too.
You will need to allow the mattress to inflate for 48 hours before sleeping on it. I know that sounds like a lot of time to wait but it’s better to give up a few days to get years of use out of your mattress. I have a post that better explains the inflation of your new mattress here.
With any new mattress, you will need to break it in like you would with shoes. You might find it odd for the first few days unless you have a really bad mattress right now, but just like shoes, you’ll need to break it in.
The break-in is why many of the mattresses you lay on at mattress stores can feel good, but you get it home it feels different. The mattresses at the stores had many people lay on it and is broken in.
Talking about mattress stores, they suck. Salespeople can be too pushy trying to sell you a mattress of the month, and all you want is to be done with the whole ordeal.
This is why I buy mattresses online, even one of the reasons for starting this site. You can see real reviews from other people, just check the reviews on the LUCID 12 Inch Queen Latex Hybrid Mattress here.
You’re not going to notice any major smells. Many of these hybrid mattresses won’t smell like an entirely memory foam mattress would. This is a big deal if you have a sensitive nose.
Adjustable Bed Frame?
Yes, this mattress will work on an adjustable bed frame. Usually, you’ll need a twin xl, but if you’re not sure about mattress sizes, in general, I have a guide here.
