Egg Crate Mattress Pad vs Memory Foam

If you’re in the market for a Mattress Pad, you may have come across Egg Crate Mattress Pads or Memory Foam Mattress Pads. You’re probably wondering which one is the best one to buy and to answer that —– I find that Memory Foam is the better one.

But… Egg Crate does have its benefits. What I want to do is show you some of the advantages of both Egg Crate and Memory Foam so that you can understand which one is best for your needs. I even recommend a Mattress Topper you might not have thought of or even considered too.

I even recommend a Mattress Topper you might not have thought of or even considered too.

Egg Crate or Memory Foam

I do believe that Memory Foam is the better mattress pad to sleep on. But if you have some serious back issues you might want to consider the Egg Crate Pad instead.

Both foams are just that, foam, but the cell structure is very different on each. The structure of Egg Crate can cause a permanent mold of the body over time, but the support is preferred in hospitals for patients who had spinal issues or back issues (even bed sores). If you’re going to buy Egg Crate Pad make sure its Medical Grade Foam or it won’t be worth it.

Memory foam “remembers” its last shape and easily returns to it. Memory Foam gives you a sinking feeling that is slower to react while egg crate is quicker to respond.

This makes egg crate perfect for headphones and other items that need to respond quickly. But when it comes to sleep you want memory foam as it gives the body the best support as it melts around you.

Tip: Make sure to get a Mattress Protector like this one here *to save your topper and mattress from spills. You place the Protector over the Pad and Mattress to adequately protect it all.

Egg Crate and Heat

Many people will say to go with Egg Crate because of the better cooling. The design of the Egg Crate allows for better airflow and use to be a valid reason to buy it. Now you can buy Gel Memory Foam which works just as well, if not better, then Egg Crate.

Old Style

The Egg Crate is an old style of mattress topper, and it will work fine for many. I find that it doesn’t last as long as memory foam and the prices are usually cheaper too. Memory Foam is a far better investment for your sleep comfort especially if you get a Gel Memory Foam Topper. Gel Memory Foam Toppers have lasted longer and hold up better for me compared to the other Egg Crate Toppers I have owned. Gel Memory Foam is really my go-to topper that I recommend to all family and friends.

Another style which I find better, then both egg crate and memory foam are Wool Mattress Toppers. Wool is a much older style but has proven to be the best if you ask me. The downside of wool is that it can cost a little more than Memory Foam, but there is no contest on how much better it is.

Wool naturally regulates the bodies temperature the best and is a dream to sleep on. Many people report sleeping deeper and longer on wool, but you have to be the judge of that. Also, bugs like dust mites don’t like wool as it naturally hypoallergenic.

What it all Means?

To wrap it all up.

If you want an affordable Mattress Pad that works well for Back Pain then consider the Egg Crate Foam Toppers. It might not last as long, but it can be worth it if you have constant back pains. Egg Crate is really good for hospital beds and some even help with bed sores too.

If you want the best “all-around” mattress pad, then consider getting a Gel Memory Foam. You can’t go wrong, and there is a ton to choose from.

If you want the best, then consider a Wool Mattress Topper. They’re harder to find, but the comfort of a natural wool topper is amazing.

Which side is up on Egg Crate Pad?

A common question I get is which side is up on an Egg Crate Foam Topper. The top side of an Egg Crate is the side with all the ridges or bumps. The flat side goes on the bottom. The bumps are for cooling and contouring to your body.
