The Alaska Bear Natural Silk Sleep Mask is just a drop in the sleep mask world. So many to choose, which means so many to choose wrong. What we wanted to do is answer some common questions in this review of this mask.
Its got all the standard stuff you expect like a carrying pouch, but also offers so much more. Please feel free to see the common questions I had and others like me had about this mask.
Does it allow the nose to be free?
Yes, the nose is open and free. There is no discomfort with this mask around the nose. It can also be easily adjustable to make it even more comfortable.
Clip on the back
One of the things I worried about was the clip on the back where you can adjust the strap. I was worried that it would get in the way and be uncomfortable. Luckily it wasn’t noticeable. Even with long hair, you don’t need to worry about the clip on the strap.
The best way to clean this silk mask is to simply use Dreft which happens to be a type of baby detergent. Just simply dip it in and out a couple of times, rinse in the sink, and allow it to air dry. I’m not a fan of most silk cleaners as they can be too harsh. Dreft works fine for a mask like this.
One common thing I see with people who suffer from constant headaches or migraines is that anything too tight can cause pain for them. Your mileage may vary, but you do have adjustable straps to make the mask as tight as you want. I know some mask don’t even allow you to adjust, but the Alaska bear Natural Silk Mask does.
Does light still come in?
Yes, its not perfect. It does it’s job quite well, but I got a big nose, and some muted light around the nose still comes in. I can make it tighter and helps quite a bit. This is just me and my big nose; I’m still in the search for a perfect mask for me. I don’t think it exists, but I will find it. All in all the mask works fine.
Can you use this with face cream? Yes! It doesn’t hurt the silk. It will require you to was the mask more often. Just make sure you never use force heat of a dryer, always air dry.
Don’t wear makeup with the mask on. Night creams will be all right, but makeup will get ruined quickly with any silk mask.
There is no pressure on the eyes when wearing this mask. Alaska Bear makes a beautiful silk mask that you can adjust and feels very soft on the skin and around the eyes.
Hot or Cold
I know the mask doesn’t feel hot at all. The silk makes it feel smooth and soft, and I have no issues with heat. When you first put the mask on after not using it for some time, it does feel a little cool to me but quickly goes away. It’s the same feeling I get when I flip my pillow over.
This mask does shift a little if you’re a rough sleeper. More noticeable for stomach sleepers who may have their heads directly on the pillow or mattress. The cover may shift but does not move from you. To keep the shifting from happening you may need to pull the adjustable headband tight. Don’t go too tight where it hurts or gives you a headache.
Mine came in an envelope, but I wanted to make sure I’m not the only one. It seems to come in an envelope which is fine since it can fit in most mailboxes.
