Everyone talks about the best mattress, but no one speaks of the best mattress and box spring set you can buy.
Everyone, and me including, are always talking about how great a mattress is and how you don’t need to get a box spring and blah blah blah. There is nothing wrong with having a box spring, especially if the bed frame you have now only supports box springs.
Some great news is that you can find some magnificent deals on Mattress and Box Spring Sets, even online!
So, What Are The Best?
Let’s start off with the best mattress and box spring set winners.
The Great Thing About Modern Sets
I know what you’re thinking, how do they ship these things? The box spring has got to take a lot of room and must cost a fortune to ship.
The amusing part is that these modern box springs are not the traditional box springs you might know. The truth is that box springs, or the old style box spring, are kind of pointless. Your modern mattresses don’t need them.
The box springs that are shipped with these mattresses in the set are metal frames that collapse and store away very easily. This cuts down on shipping cost. The great part is that they’re all simple to install!
These box springs give the shape of a traditional box spring and even have the wrapping around them to make them look like box springs, but there are no springs in them. It’s a metal foundation with the appearance of a box spring.
The great thing about this style of a combination is that you’ll get everything you need. Often when you buy a set with everything you need you come out cheaper then if you buy them separately.
You’ll have everything covered, and there is no reason to look for a box spring since you already have one.
Having this combination of box spring and mattress is perfect for anyone like a student that will take their bed when they move out. The box spring stores away nice and neat!
What To Look For When Buying
When purchasing a Mattress and Box Spring Set you have more things to look for then just buying a single mattress.
Let’s start off with the Box Spring.
The traditional box spring was that, a box with springs in it. This was needed for innerspring mattresses to give them more comfort and better life span.
Now the innerspring mattresses are becoming harder and harder to find as more people switch to a memory foam or latex mattress. Trust me if you haven’t tried a memory foam or latex mattress then you need to.
With memory foam and latex mattress more in demand, the old style box spring has started to fade away. Memory foam and latex don’t need a box spring; they just need a good support system.
The box springs now, like the ones we reviewed, use metal with a wrapping around it to make it appear as a box spring.
The Mattress will depend on your comfort you’re looking for. A memory foam will be the most supportive mattress and better for anyone who has back pain. The latex will be more bouncy and feel more like a traditional innerspring mattress.
The memory foam is a lot more attractive due to it being cheaper than latex, but I find latex to hold up better in the long run.
I want to answer some of the more common questions people might have about each mattress. It can be hard to pick the right mattress since you may have a lot of questions about each. So let’s go over some of them…
First: Night Therapy Memory Foam 8 Inch Mattress and BiFold® Box Spring Set
Do you need a bed frame? – Yes. A standard bed frame that supports a box spring will work fine.
Does the Mattress have a Smell? – No, not really. Many of the memory foam mattresses will have some odor to them since they have been wrapped up for shipping. Allowing the mattress to inflate and air out before sleeping on it is ideal.
Does it sleep hot? – A lot of people think memory foam mattress sleep hot. I don’t seem to have this problem, but it could be due to me using a cooling mattress protector.
Do you need to let the mattress inflate? – Yes. Many of the mattresses you buy online will need to inflate or expand for 24 to 48 hours to get to the manufactured size. I go into more detail about that here.
How thick is the box spring? – It is 9 inches when set up.
Bed Sheets? – You can use regular bed sheets for this mattress. Do recommend a good mattress protector like this one to help keep dirt and moisture away from the bed.
Are they shipped separately? – Yes, you will get two boxes.
Second: 10″ Night Therapy Pressure Relief Memory Foam Mattress & Bi-Fold® Box Spring Set
Does it come with a bed frame? – Nope, you will need a bed frame. I have a link above from the winner for a link to a bed frame if you need one.
The height of the box spring? – It is about 9 inches when assembled.
Does it smell? – The smell is not noticeable and not an issue once the bed has expanded to its full size.
Do you need to let it expand? – Yes, the mattress will come compressed to cut down on shipping charges. You will need to let the mattress expand just like the first placed one.
Bed Sheets? – Standard bed sheets will work fine for this mattress.
Mattress Protector? – I would buy a good mattress protector before sleeping on it to keep body juices and bugs away.
Third: Sleep Master iCoil 13 Inch Euro Top Spring Mattress and BiFold Box Spring Set
Does it Ship Separate? – Yes, the box spring and mattress are in two different boxes.
Can you flip the mattress? – Nope. Don’t flip a memory foam mattress as they are layered. You can rotate if you want, but don’t flip.
Is the Fold on the box spring noticeable? – No, you won’t be able to tell that the box spring folds at all once fully assembled.
Does the box spring make noise? – You won’t hear any noise from this style of box spring.
Firm or soft? – Usually the thicker the mattress, the softer it is. An 8-inch is generally firmer than say a 13-inch mattress.
Does it come with a bed frame? – No, you will need a bed frame. I have a link to a bed frame in the first place winner section of the common questions.
Weight limit? – A combined weight of 500 pounds is the limit on this mattress and box spring.
