Moving is more stressful than it should be. Even more stressful if you have to worry about bed bugs.
I’ve been one of the unluckily few that have gotten a bed bud attack from a moving company and its truck. You would think that a moving company would take more care to make sure there trucks are nice and bug free but they don’t.
Its really up to you to make sure the moving truck you get is bed bug free. There is a very few “bed bug free moving companies” out there, but they are too few of them.
One of the things you can do is to wrap all your furniture in plastic wrap to keep the bed bugs out. Not the quickest and most pain free method but it can help.
I’ve been known to have some lavender oil wrapped in some of the furniture. The bed bugs hate strong smell of lavender so if they’re in the truck the last place they want to be is near the oil. This is also a very natural way to keep bed bugs at away.
Its expensive to fumigate a whole house, but its not so bad to do a moving truck. You can load up your moving truck and then pay for someone to come in and fumigate the truck. Make sure you don’t have any furniture in the truck that can’t handle the fumes.
This is a little simple hack to cut down on cost of killing bed bugs when moving.
Vacuum the truck and everything it touches. Vacuum the couches and every furniture that goes into the moving truck. Make sure you use a vacuum with a HEPA filter so that those nasty bugs can’t get back out.
This is a great way to go the extra step to make sure you don’t spread bed bugs to your new home.
Steam Clean Everything
The best way to kill bed bugs is with hot air or water. The bed bugs can’t stand the heat. Simply steam cleaning everything, even the truck, is a great way to make sure the spread of bed bugs don’t happen. Those bugs can’t stand when hot water or air touches them for a long period of time.
Make sure you steam clean slowly and get into all the cracks. You want to steam clean 1 inch per second. The slower the better.
