I can’t sleep with my alarm clock glaring its bright clock lights at me. I just can’t.
I thought I was doomed to deal with this. I’ve tried to put scotch tape over it and it only slightly dimmed it. I had to place a blanket over it just to get some sleep.
Why can’t they make an alarm clock that is not too bright? The best thing would be to have an alarm clock that is barely on when the room is totally dark. Since these types of alarm clocks are hard to find, the best thing to do is do a simple hack to your current alarm clock.
To be honest this little trick is far better than looking for the best dim alarm clock since its hard to find them.
How To Dim Alarm Clock With Dim It Sheets
You can pick up these “Dim It Light dimming sheets” here. These little suckers work perfect to block a good bit of the light on your alarm clock.
These sheets are far better than dropping money on a new alarm clock that hopefully is dim. Even the alarm clocks that say it was at its dimmest setting was too bright for me. I mean I could read a book by the light these alarm clocks admit.
Why don’t they build alarm clocks in a dim room?
Another good feature of these sheets is that they stay on with static cling. Since I’m the paranoid type I still use some scotch tape to help keep it on. I didn’t want to wake up at night because the static cling let go and the alarm clock is bright again.
I can that these sheets are worth it. I do recommend the tape just to be on the safe side of things to hold on there for a long time.
You may need to cut these sheets to size to make sure they fit your display on your alarm clock.
Works well with all types of light color alarm clocks. Blue, white, red, or even green works great with these Dim It Sheets.
A Better Option
There is also some tape called Lithographers Tape that can be used instead of the Dim It Sheets. This tape works best for LED displays to really dull the light down. I’ve been known to put this over LED’s for my computer, TV, and even Microwave. I’m not a fan of bright standby lights. Just watch out when putting on Blue LED’s as it can make some of them almost hard to see.
The great thing about Lithographers tape is that it takes out the blue light Spectrum. The Blue light rays are what can keep you up at night. The blue light can affect the sleep-inducing hormone called melatonin. Here is a good read on it.
If you’re like me you have a sensitivity to light when you’re trying to sleep. About the only way to get rid of this is by covering your eyes when you sleep. A good sleep mask will help! Many sleep masks are very comfortable and you can barely tell you have it on.
A sleep mask is the only way to stop all light from keeping you awake.
